In Our Conversation Today, We’re Exploring:

  • Why clarity is an essential part of the waiting process

  • How to examine the stories around why we’re waiting and what we’re waiting for

  • How to do the inside work to ensure that we don’t wait too long or in vain

  • How to use our ability to choose to wait for the future while managing the present

Is this worth waiting for?

Whether it’s a finish line that keeps moving, the timing of a promotion that remains unclear quarter after quarter, or a promise that never seems to be fulfilled, waiting is sometimes a very trying part of our work lives.

We can use certain mindful and reflective practices to help ourselves get more comfortable with the uncertainty so that we can show up and work while we wait. And we can ask ourselves if we have options regarding waiting. Do we need only wait here? Are there other paths to the outcome we desire?

And importantly, we can ask ourselves, “Do I believe the people telling us to wait because it’s going to get better?”

If we’re not sure how to build a roadmap for getting the outcome we’re waiting for, it’s challenging to know if it’ll actually happen. And when we have that road map, we can then decide what to do and where we’ll hit a decision point if we decide to wait.

Getting clarity around what we’re waiting for, examining the potential for it to arrive, and doing the inside work around what stories we might be telling ourselves about that process can all get us into a better relationship with work.

Plus, our first Tom Petty reference, Nayla completes her John Wick Homework and we discuss the more poignant moments of When Harry Met Sally.
