Episode 99: The Body, The Mind, and Lessons from Physical Therapist Joe LaVacca

Today We Welcome Joe Lavacca, Physical Therapist and Founder Of Strength In Motion To The Inside Job Podcast

On this week's episode, Nayla, Eric, and Physical Therapist Joe LaVacca explore the inside job of making change in our lives. In the professional setting and in our health, we talk about what happens when we understand the stories we tell ourselves about why things are hard, how powerful good listening can be, and taking on the challenges of 'getting better' with support.

In Our Conversation Today We’re Exploring:

  • Why asking for what we need begins with the inside job

  • How being coachable can allow us to grow and move through challenges

  • What it looks like to start choosing ourselves when we make changes in our lives

Joe currently owns and operates Strength in Motion PT located in the heart of New York City and in addition holds a role as Lead Educator for Fringe, a whole person health and wellness company.

Having completed his Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy at Sacred Heart University, Joe LaVacca has been a physical therapist in New York City for over 10 years, and has seen (and been a part of) both the good and the bad of the healthcare system. Through his experiences as a PT, time with mentors, countless continuing education courses, teaching around the world, and his own personal battle with depression, Joe began to question what he could actually do as a Physical Therapist, and perhaps more importantly, what he could do better as a human being. This led to the development of a style of care that is centered around education, empowerment, and communication.

Here’s a preview of what we discussed in today’s episode.

  • The Stories We Tell About Why Things Are Hard

  • Asking For What We Need

  • The Value Of Being Coachable

  • Choosing Ourselves First When Things Need To Change
