In Our Conversation Today, We’re Exploring:

  • Do you owe it to your company or team to wait to make a move until your current projects or busy season are finished?

  • Is there a minimum amount of time you should stay in a role before leaving for a different department or company?

  • How the story we tell ourselves about our importance in our current role can sometimes be the biggest factor when it comes to deciding if it’s the right time to make a change

  • The difference between commitment and obligation and how they factor into our decision-making

  • A three-step process for determining if it’s the right time to exit your current situation

This week’s topic came to us in the form of multiple questions from our listeners and clients about time. One form these questions often come in usually start with, “How long do I have to …”

You can finish that question with things like how long do I have to stay in a role, how long do I have to wait to get news about this promotion, or how long do I have to keep someone on my team who’s giving a mixed performance?

Another form these questions about time can start with is, “Is there a right time to …”

That version of the question can be finished with is there a right time to stay, is there a right time to go, or is there a right time to take action on something within the organization?

What these questions boil down to is… how much is timing a factor in my choices?
