Episode 107: Company Culture and the Inside Job
Defining Our Ideal Company Culture Is An Inside Job
Part of the current dialogue surrounding the great resignation includes a poignant question: “What could possibly be going on that’s leading millions of people to walk away from their jobs?” And one of the common answers to that inquiry is that people are not putting up with a culture they don't want to be a part of anymore.
Working remotely for a few years has allowed people to see the culture of their workplace with a bit of distance. As a result, many have realized that they may want a different culture at work.
Today we’re exploring company culture and how we can define what we truly want from the culture of our workplaces. This process includes exploring what we mean when we say we love the culture at our workplace, why we might decide that we want something different, how we can navigate the changing work culture in our current company, and whether it’s truly possible to create subcultures on our teams or in our departments that are distinct from the culture of the company at large.
We’ll also explore the questions we can ask ourselves as part of doing the inside job when it comes to exploring what we want from company culture.
In Our Conversation Today We’re Exploring:
What we mean when we say we love the culture at our workplace
Why we might want something different from our company culture
What it means for us when our current company’s culture has changed over time
Whether we can create subcultures within our company that are different from the larger company’s culture
Why Eric doesn't believe you should ask about company culture in an interview
