In Our Conversation Today, We’re Exploring:
How to know if you’re getting in your own way
The ways (big and small) that we often interfere with our own ability to succeed
The questions we can ask ourselves to reflect on these tendencies and prevent future ones
How would I know if I’m getting in my own way?
If you’ve heard us mention this phrase in previous episodes you might be wondering what it really means, what it looks like, and how you can take steps to avoid it.
The truth is that sometimes we might not even be aware of how we might be working against our own interests. We might not see the ways we’re impeding our ability to succeed or to reach our full potential. But if we find ourselves interfering with our own ability to do the things we believe are important, that’s us getting in our own way.
So what barriers do you tend to throw in front of yourself?
Are we creating new obstacles (big or small) by avoiding conflict, not asking for help, or putting off difficult conversations? Or are we telling ourselves that we’re sticking to our values while we ignore what we really need in a given situation?
It’s worth reflecting on these questions. And it’s valuable to clarify what success really looks like in a given situation so we can move out of our own way and toward what we really want in life or at work.
Also in this episode: We share our excitement for both a new season of Ted Lasso (along with Eric’s Roy Kent Impression) and our upcoming interview with a Procrastination Coach Dr. Christine Li!
